A SEASONAL PROBLEM

There is a requirement under recent 'Slip and Trip' legislation for anyone with public or employee accessible premises to have a duty of care regarding possible slip hazards and there is an ever increasing pressure to demonstrate that reasonable efforts have been made to control potential slip hazards both inside and outside the premises.

For most companies and facilities operating in an increasingly litigious workplace and operational environment, uncleared snow and ice can potentially mean closure of premises on vital business days at busy times of year.

We carry out a site survey on all new locations requesting a quote. From this survey, we provide a price on a 'per visit' basis. We will also provide a risk assessment method statement, and COSHH details upon retention of our services.

During the winter months of November through to the end of March, we subscribe to a very detailed weather forecasting system, we are provided with daily reports covering all corners of the Scottish Borders and Northumberland areas. If any hazardous freezing conditions are forecast through the night, we implement the gritting service on either an 'auto response' basis or if preferred, on our customers personal request. We grit pro-actively throughout the night to ensure sites are safe for the morning of business and when necessary have the snow clearing equipment on standby ready to be called in, should snow start to fall and settle.
